"Hopefully by now everyone has learned that a quality power supply is as important to your computers longevity as your processor is to your number crunching. The ‘cheap stuff’ might work for a shot time but when the ship starts to leak it usually goes down. I personally have only needed a PSU larger than 750 watts when I built a dual Opteron 2220SE system with 8800 GTX cards in SLI. A 750 watt Silver Store PSU would shut the system off within three seconds of any 3D content. After 8 Western Digital 150 Gb Raptors were added under RAID I needed to move into a 1kW power supply. This is the type of system many will need to utilize a 1000 watt PSU but with new quad-core processors and GPUs raising power requirements more enthusiasts are finding themselves with a real need for today's ultra high output power supplies."
