Error: "You must have the Root Certificate Update installed. . ." while installing Symantec AntiVirus 9 Client on Windows 98

Situation:
You try to install Symantec AntiVirus Client on a Windows 98-based computer, and you see a system warning dialog box that says "You must have the Root Certificate Update installed. Please visit
www.windowsupdate.com for more information." You have installed all critical updates through windowsupdate.microsoft.com, but you still see the message.
Solution:
Follow these steps to manually download and install the Root Certificates Update for Windows 98 from windowsupdate.com:
1. Go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click "Scan for updates."
If you want to include the update file in a separate package, you can download the patch directly from the Microsoft Web site.

2. In the left pane, click "Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition."
3. Scroll through the list until you see "Root Certificates Update."
4. Click Add.
5. Click "Review and install updates."
6. Click "Install Now."
7. After the update has finished, close the browser and attempt the installation again.
You should now be able to install Symantec AntiVirus 9 without seeing the error message.
