xorg. настройка рефреша экрана. где прописывать?
 

такая проблема: настроил вроде бы этот xorg с помощью его утилы (xorgconfig). Все вроде нормально, НО в 1152х864 выставляется ревреш почему-то 75 герц, когда мой мон может держать 100. в 1024х768 - 85 герц, может держать 100. порылся в конфиге, так и не увидел, где это прописано.

Смотри секцию "Monitor" в файле xorg.conf
А там HorizSync и VertRefresh
В первом максимальное значение в твоем случае должно быть в районе 120 (это в килогерцах)
А во втором выставляешь диапазон разверток который поддерживает твой монитор, например 50 - 150.

странно.. эти значения у меня настроены как раз по спецификации монитора:
HorizSync 30-96
VertRefresh 50-160

Попробуй ограничить VertRefresh снизу значением в 90 или 100 Гц.
т.е. сделать 100 - 160, может помочь.

ограничил. иксы просто не стартуют.. вылетают с ошибкой "не найдены рабочие режимы"

Можно еще поэкспериментировать с поднятием верхнего значения HorizSync.
Но может быть проблема и с драйвером видюхи, что он не поддерживает какие-то режимы, мне например не удалось запустить иксы при разрешении 1152х864 на частоте 85 Гц (видео radeon 9500), а на этом разрешении после 75 Гц получалось только 100, а на 100 мой моник уже не работал...

After restarting X, use "xvidtune" to adjust your monitor settings.
Start xvidtune from a terminal (read the warning and don't overdrive
your monitor)
Immediately after starting xvidtune click on the "Show" button. This will
give you your current settings.
Adjust the setting to your liking and hit the show button again.
You should now have two groups of settings for use in a mode line.
Copy these two lines and edit your X11 config file and add both modelines
in the Monitor section. Here is a copy of my Monitor section:

As you can see I have multiple modeline for different resolutions. Please
note that a modeline starts with "ModeLine" and ends with "+vsync" all on
one line (just in case the lines get wrapped or chopped).

The first modeline contains your original settings and should be
commented out with a #
The second modeline will contain your new settings and should not
be commented out.

Now restart X, if all is well then your done.

If X doesn't start then edit your X11 file again, uncomment the first
modeline (original settings) then comment out the second modeline (new
settings). Examine the logs files for possible failures and try again.
It may take a couple of trys to get the exact fit and finish you want, as
evidenced by my own Montior section, but its worth it.
